Setting up the Zebra ZD410 on a computer for custom label printing

1. Connect your Zebra ZD410 printer

Follow the steps below to connect the printer into an AC electrical outlet. The light on the power cycle rectangle turns green once power is connected.

 

NOTE: 

It's best to use direct connections instead of USB hubs and power cords

 2. Insert your Zebra ZD410 label roll 

1. To open the printer's lid, pull the yellow latches towards you and lift the lid upwards.

 

2. Pull the yellow roll guides apart and insert the roll with the labels face up.

  

3. Release the the roll guides and push them together to make sure the roll is secure and turning freely.

   

4. Pull the labels out past the cutter at the front of the printer.

  

5. Push the labels under the roll guides.

  

6. Flip the labels up and align the media sensor to the center position.

  

7. Push the lid down to snap both yellow latches shut.


3. Calibrate your Zebra ZD410 printer

For the printer to recognize the size of your labels, perform an initial calibration:

  1. Follow the steps above to insert your label roll.
  2. Press the power button and wait for the solid green status indicator light.
  3. Hold the pause and cancel buttons down for 2 seconds and let go. The printer will measure and feed a few blank labels.
  4. Once the printer stops and the status indicator light is solid green, the calibration is complete.

 

NOTE: 

An initial calibration is necessary when the new roll is a different label size. You do not need to calibrate after inserting a new roll of the same label size. The printer will automatically adjust or you can press the feed button twice before printing. If you are using a Zebra LP2824 Plus, hold down the green feed button and release after the status light ring flashes once and then twice.


4. Print your Configuration reports

To verify your printer is operating, print your Configuration reports:

  1. Follow the steps above to insert your label roll.
  2. Press the power button and wait for the solid green status indicator light.
  3. Hold the feed and cancel buttons down for 2 seconds and let go. Your Configuration reports will prin


NOTE: 
If you are using a Zebra LP2824 Plus, hold down the green feed button and release after the status light ring flashes once.






     4.  Press the power button to turn off your printer.

 

5. Add the Zebra ZD410 to your computer (MAC or Windows)

 

MAC

1. Follow the steps in sections 1 to 4 above.Connect your USB certified (version 2.0) cable from your printer to your computer's USB port.

3. Press the power button and wait for the solid green status indicator light.

NOTE: It is normal that the network indicator light is red with a USB connection setup.
4. From the top left of your screen, click on  > System Preferences.

5. Click on Printers & Scanners.

6. From the left Printers section, click + > Add Printer or Scanner...

7. From the Add window, select the Zebra ZD410 and in the Use drop down, click Select Software.

8. From the Printer Software window, select the driver corresponding to your label size:

  • Normal, small, and alternative labels: choose the Zebra EPL2 Label Printer driver.
  • Jewelry labels: choose the Zebra ZPL Label Printer driver.

9. Click OK.

10. From the Add window, click Add. 

11. Close the Printers & Scanners window.

Windows

Your Zebra ZD410 printer will automatically install if you follow the below steps. If it does not, go to Installing your Zebra ZD410 manually on Windows before continuing.

  1. Follow the steps in sections 1 to 4 above.
  2. Connect your USB certified (version 2.0) cable from your printer to your computer's USB port.

3. Press the printer's power button and wait for the solid green status indicator light.

4.To open your Control Panel, click the Windows Start Menu > Control Panel.

NOTE: If you are using a Windows 8 or 10 version, right click the Windows Start Menu instead of doing a left click.
5. From the Hardware and Sound section, click View devices and printers. 

6. From the Printers section, confirm that your ZDesigner ZD410-203dpi ZPL was added.
7. If you are printing on normal, small, or alternative labels, go to 
Changing your Zebra ZD410 printer driver on Windows before continuing. 

 

6. Format your computer settings

If you are using a Windows computer, you will need to format your computer settings.

  1. To open your Control Panel, click the Windows Start Menu > Control Panel.

NOTE: If you are using a Windows 8 or 10 version, right click the Windows Start Menu instead of doing a left click.
2. From the Hardware and Sound section, click view devices and printers. 

3. From the Printers section, locate your ZDesigner ZD410-203dpi ZPL in the list.

4. Right click your ZDesigner ZD410-203dpi ZPL.

5. Click Printer preferences.

6. From the OPTIONS tab, enter your label size in inches.


NOTE: If your are printing on jewelry labels, from the ADVANCED SETUP tab, select Mark Sensing as well.

7. Click OK.

8. Right click your ZDesigner ZD410-203dpi ZPL.

9. Click Printer properties.Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry.

10. From the GENERAL tab, click the Preferences... button.

11. Repeat step 6 to 8.

12. From the ADVANCED tab, click the Printing Defaults... button.

13. Repeat step 6 to 8.

14. From the PRINTER SETTINGS tab, select the Always use drivers settings checkbox. 

15. Click OK.

16. Close your Devices and Printers window.

 
7. Format your Firefox browser settings

Firefox about:config settings 

1. Open your Firefox browser.

2. In the Firefox's address bar, enter about:config

3. Click the I accept the risk! button.

4. In the Search bar, enter margin

5. From the Preference Names below, double-click their Value columns > enter 0 > click OK.

NOTE: If you are using a Windows computer and have Preference Names for margins specific to your ZDesigner printer, change them to 0 as well.

6. In the Search bar, enter header

7. From the Preference Names below, double-click their Value columns > delete the values > click OK:

NOTE: If you are using a Windows computer and have Preference Names for headers specific to your ZDesigner printer, delete their values as well.

8. In the Search bar, enter footer

9. From the Preference Names below, double-click their Value columns > delete the values > click OK:

NOTE: If you are using a Windows computer and have Preference Names for footers specific to your ZDesigner printer, delete their values as well.

10. In the Search bar, enter print_printer

11. From the Preference Name print_printer, right click its Value column > click Reset.

14. From the Search bar, enter print.save_print_settings

15. From the Preference Name print.save_print_settings, double-click its Value column if it is not set to true already.

NOTE: If you are using a Windows computer and print from Firefox to multiple printers, double-click the Value column to set it to false instead. Do not do this for MAC computers.
14. Close the about:config Firefox tab.

 

Windows print prompt

  1. From the main menu of your Lightspeed Retail account, click Settings > General Options.
  2. From the left menu, click the Printing section.
  3. From the Label Size dropdown, select your label size.
  4. From the left menu, click the blue Save Changes button.
  5. From the main menu, click Inventory > Print Labels.
  6. Click the Print All button or the Label icon to the left of an Item Description.

    NOTE: If you don't see Items in your list, go to Printing labels to build a label queue. The article also includes more information on other sections in your account where you can print labels to your Zebra ZD410 printer.

  7. From the print prompt window, click Properties.


8. In the Size section, double-check that the label size in these Firefox settings match your computer settings. If they do not, review section 6. Format your computer settings.

9. Click OK > OK. You should have a successful label.

 

MAC page setup 

1. Open your Firefox browser.

2. Click File > Page Setup and select the below:Format For: select your Zebra ZD410 printer.Paper Size: select Manage Custom Size...

3. From the new window, click the + button and enter the below:

Untitled: click and rename to your label size.

Page Size: enter your label size in the width and height fields.

Non-Printable Area: enter 0 in the top, right, bottom, and left fields.

4. Click OK > OK.

 

MAC printer settings preset

  1. From the main menu of your Lightspeed POS account, click Settings > General Options.
  2. From the left menu, click the Printing section.
  3. From the Label Size dropdown, select your label size.
  4. From the left menu, click the blue Save Changes button.
  5. From the main menu, click Inventory > Print Labels.
  6. Click the Print All button or the Label icon to the left of an Item Description.

    NOTE: If you don't see Items in your list, go to Printing labels to build a label queue. The article also includes more information on other sections of your account where you can print labels to your Zebra ZD410 printer.

  7. From the print prompt window, double-check the settings below:
    • Printer: Zebra ZD410 printer selected in your Page Setup.
    • Paper Size: label size select in your Page Setup.
    • Page Headers: Left, Center, and Right fields set to blank.
    • Page Footers: Left, Center, and Right fields set to blank.

8. From the Presets dropdown, select Save Current Settings as Preset...

9. From the new window in the Preset Name section, enter a name for your preset.

10. Click OK.

11. If you are using jewelry labels, from the Firefox dropdown, select Printer Features and continue to step 12. If you are printing normal, alternative or small labels, click Print. You should have a successful label.

12. From the Media Tracking dropdown, select Non-continuous (Mark sensing).

13. Click Print. You should have a successful jewelry label.
