Spend X Get Discount Price Rule Setup Guide

You can create promotional deals (price rules) in coreSTORE to be applied to items, item kits, item categories, and item tags, and you can create coupon codes for those deals. In order to set up Price Rules, go to the Inventory module, select the Price Rules sub-module (for more information, see Price Rules Sub-Module Overview), then click on the + Create Rule button.

(Note: You can only have one price rule for an item, item kit, item category, or item tag at a time for a given date range. If you do create more than one price rule, coreSTORE will automatically use the latest one.)

There are a total of 5 different types of price rules (for an overview of these price rule types, see Price Rules and Coupons). This article shows you how to setup a Spend X Get Discount price rule.

Spend X Get Discount

This rule requires the customer to spend a subtotal amount of X to get either a discount off X amount or a flat discount off the entire purchase.

Examples: "Spend _ Get _% Off!!!" OR "Spend _ Get $_ Off!!!"

The first 10 options are all the same for every type of price rule. Shown below are examples of how a Spend X Get Discount price rule could be set up.

  • Rule Type (1): Select Spend X Get Discount from the drop-down list (shown belowA) (this field is required) [expands the screen to show options (11), (12), (13), (14), and (15)].
  • Rule Name (2): Input a name for the price rule (this field is required).
    • Percent Discount: If the discount is based upon percent off the subtotal of a sale, you could name the price rule something like "Spend _ Get _% Off!!!" For example, if you wanted a customer to get 20% off the subtotal of a sale when they spend $100 in products, you could name the price rule "Spend $100 Get 20% Off!!!"
    • Flat Discount: If the discount is based upon a fixed dollar amount off the subtotal of a sale, you could name the price rule something like "Spend _ Get $_ Off!!!" For example, if you wanted a customer to save $20 of the subtotal of a sale when they spend $100 in products, you could name the price rule "Spend $100 Get $20 Off!!!"
  • Description (3): Input a description for the price rule.
  • Start Date (4): Use the date picker tool (shown belowB) to choose a start date for the price rule (this field is required).
  • End Date (5): Use the date picker tool (shown belowB) to choose an end date for the price rule (this field is required).
  • Requires Coupon (6): Check this box if you only want a customer to have access to the price rule if they have a coupon/coupon code for the price rule [expands the screen to show (7) and (8)].
  • Coupon Code (7): Input a coupon code (can be made up of numbersletters, or both) for the coupon [only shows if (6) is checked].
  • Print Coupon On Receipt (8): Check this box if you want to have the coupon print on sale receipts [only shows if (6) is checked, and expands the screen to show (9)]
  • Spend Amount To Activate On Receipt (9): If you want the coupon to only print on sale receipts if the customer spends a certain amount of money during the sale, input the amount here.
  • Active (10): Check this box if the price rule is active.

When you select Spend X Get Discount from the drop-down list (A), the screen expands with the following options, where you will specify the exact values of the price rule.

  • Spend Amount (11): Input the amount that the customer has to spend in order to trigger the discount. Continuing from the example in (2), you would input 100 here.
  • Percent Off (12): If the price rule is a Percent Discount, input the percentage here. Continuing from the example in (2), you would input 20 here.
  • Fixed Off (13): If the price rule is a Flat Discount, input the fixed dollar amount here. Continuing from the example in (2), you would input 20 here.
  • Maximum Allowed Per Sale (14): If you want to limit how many times the coupon can be applied per sale, input it here or use the arrows to select a number [this field only shows and is required if (15) is unchecked].
  • Unlimited (15): Check this box if you do not want the coupon to be limited to a certain amount allowed per sale [if you uncheck this box, the screen will expand to show (14)] (this field is required).
  • Save (16): In order to save the price rule, click the Save button.
