In some cases, it is possible to set a preference which can cause certain coreFORCE pages to stop working. One of the most common ways this can happen is to attempt to sort a maintenance screen (such as products maintenance) by a field that requires significant resources to sort in the database. For example, if you try to sort by some fields, you will likely get "Server not responding" when accessing the product list.
This can be resolved by going to the User Preferences page (shift shift User Preferences; note: *not* "Manage User Preferences"). In the Actions menu, click "Reset User Settings". This will delete all user-specific preferences, which should resolve issues with sort order and other filters that can cause performance issues.
