Once you have started a Work Order with a firearm, if you have to ship the item out to the manufacturer or to another FFL, you can simply change the Status on the Work Order to Out for Repair:
Manually, in the bound book you will need to enter the disposition information and dispose the firearm.
When the item comes back you will manually acquire it again directly in the bound book as a new record.
The work order will still function properly and you will just need to change the status:
When the customer comes in to pick it up and you complete the work order it will dispose the firearm to the customer properly (it looks for the serial number match where that serial number is In Stock, which will be the latest acquisition you did).
